Latest Update on Jace Watkins: Family Prays for a Miracle as Condition Remains Critical on Christmas Eve
The Watkins family is facing an unthinkable Christmas Eve as they wait and pray beside the hospital bed of Jace Watkins, an 11-year-old fifth grader from Hueytown whose condition remains critical.

Jace became seriously ill after coming down with the flu last week. Early evaluations offered cautious reassurance, with doctors initially noting that his lungs appeared stable. But days later, his condition took a devastating turn. Jace began having seizures at home and then stopped breathing. Paramedics worked urgently to revive him after as long as 15 minutes without oxygen, rushing him to Children’s of Alabama.
He is now in a medically induced coma, on a ventilator, with ongoing brain swelling and no current signs of brain activity, according to the family. Doctors continue to monitor him closely as they work to manage the swelling and support his vital functions.
A Community Comes Together

In the midst of heartbreak and uncertainty, Hueytown responded with unity. On Christmas Eve, dozens gathered for a candlelight prayer vigil, lifting Jace up together when words and medicine feel limited. Friends, neighbors, classmates’ families, and faith leaders stood shoulder to shoulder, offering prayers, songs, and quiet moments of reflection.
For Jace’s parents and loved ones, the vigil was a reminder that they are not alone.
“Tonight, we’re asking for prayers, hope, and strength,” a family member shared. “Please keep Jace in your thoughts.”
Holding On Through the Night

Christmas Eve is usually marked by anticipation and warmth. For the Watkins family, it is a night measured in minutes—listening to monitors, waiting for updates, and holding onto faith through the longest hours.
Medical teams remain focused on stabilizing Jace and addressing the swelling, while his family continues to hope for signs of improvement. Support has poured in from across the community, with many sharing messages of encouragement and promises to keep praying.
As the night unfolds, Hueytown and beyond are united in one wish: for healing, for strength, and for a miracle.
