Just yesterday, we shared the heartbreaking story of 24-year-old lineman Hunter Alexander, who nearly lost his life while working through brutal ice-storm conditions so others could stay warm, safe, and connected.
While restoring power, a powerful electric shock tore through Hunter’s body, causing catastrophic injuries to his arms and hands and sending him to the ICU in Louisiana.
Today, his father Daren shared a new update — and it shows just how intense this fight still is.
Hunter has been back in surgery once again. It has been an incredibly painful day, but there is still hope.
Doctors were able to avoid amputation yet again. They removed damaged tissue from his right thumb, left forearm, and wrist, and confirmed that the major nerves and blood vessels in his arms are still intact. That alone feels nothing short of a miracle.
But the road ahead is long.
Hunter suffered third-degree burns on his left forearm and wrist. He has open wounds covered by wound vacs and will need skin grafts. Doctors say he will require two to three more surgeries over the coming days as they work urgently to save as much healthy tissue as possible.
Despite everything, Hunter remains awake, alert, and thinking ahead. He’s preparing to move out of the ICU as soon as a bed becomes available — even joking about rigging a way to hold his phone so he can stay connected with friends.
That’s who Hunter is.
