In the middle of a storm, you learn that “normal” is a luxury, and a “win” can be something as simple as a plate of tacos or a moment of relief in a hospital ward. But tonight, as we celebrate our own tiny victories, our hearts are being pulled toward a tragedy in Texas that reminds us just how fragile the thread of life truly is.
Today was a day of reclaiming the small things. Thanks to Granny “holding down the fort” at the hospital, Jason and I were able to step outside the sterile walls for just an hour. We chose Mexican food and the chance to take a few deep breaths that didn’t smell like antiseptic.
For the first time in days, Jason is trading a cramped hospital couch for a real bed. We are heading to pick up CJ, feeling the bittersweet weight of a “small-but-huge” milestone: Will finally found some physical relief (yes, we’re talking about a #2!), easing a mountain of medical anxiety that had been building up.

There is a strange, sacred kind of healing in the “messy” parts of life. As I watched the “total chaos” of the cleanup—complete with laughter that physically hurt and dads gagging in the background—I was struck by a painful realization. My first baby is growing up so fast, and I can’t protect or help him in the ways I used to.
